Stepping Up Aftercare Program

Stepping Up is House of His Creation’s aftercare program designed to support mothers as they move forward from their time in our maternity home toward greater stability and support.

During the first year after discharge, mothers may receive continued case management and individualized support that addresses both practical and relational needs. This includes help with securing and maintaining housing, gaining or sustaining employment, resolving transportation challenges, and accessing short-term training or certification programs that increase employability.

Alongside this practical support, Stepping Up also provides ongoing encouragement, connection, and guidance as mothers continue to grow in confidence and capacity as parents. Mothers are invited to participate in support groups focused on child development, parenting through different stages, and healthy self-care. Additional activities may include parenting classes, educational workshops about finances, and individualized parenting support in response to specific concerns or questions.

When needed, we also help connect families to community resources and services, ensuring that each mother is supported in a holistic and sustainable way.

Stepping Up exists to walk alongside mothers as they move forward from their time living at House of His Creation into the next season of their journey — helping them build healthy families, strong support systems, and hopeful futures.

Program Goals

Educate parents and develop their capacity for informed, mindful decision-making by providing ongoing support on topics such as financial literacy, budgeting, stress management, child development, child abuse prevention, and other practical life skills that support family stability.

Empower parents to achieve greater stability and long-term self-sufficiency by helping them overcome immediate barriers related to housing, transportation, and employment, and by providing practical life assistance, and advocacy.

Engage parents in meaningful, supportive relationships through safe community connections, peer support, and consistent encouragement, walking alongside them as they grow and move forward.

Darryl Gibbs serves as House of His Creation’s Child Abuse Prevention Educator. He is also the founder of The Cynthia Gibbs Foundation, an organization dedicated to protecting children and preventing abuse through education, awareness, and advocacy.

As a nationally recognized educator specializing in Shaken Baby Syndrome (also known as Abusive Head Trauma), Darryl provides workshops and training for our staff, residents, and community partners. His work focuses on prevention, early education, and equipping caregivers with the knowledge and tools needed to keep children safe.

Darryl’s commitment to this work is deeply personal. Following the tragic death of his 8-month-old daughter, Cynthia, in 2000, he dedicated his life to ensuring that other families are spared similar loss. Through education and compassion, Darryl helps bring awareness, understanding, and hope to communities across the country.

The Parenting Journey Program

Michelle Gibbs is a certified facilitator of The Parenting Journey, a 12-week experiential parenting program offered through House of His Creation.

The Parenting Journey is a hands-on, interactive class designed to help parents grow in confidence, understanding, and intentionality. The program includes a shared meal and childcare, both generously provided by volunteers, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for families.

Because the program is experiential, participants learn by doing — through engaging activities, guided discussion, and reflection. Parents explore their own childhood experiences, clarify their values, and intentionally shape the kind of parent they want to be. The result is a personalized, thoughtful approach to parenting that supports healthy relationships, strong families, and positive child development.
